One Day Intensive Building Science Training

We are happy to hear of your interest in Energy Star® and high performance home building.  Building Performance Solutions, Inc. has a long history in this industry and we would be excited to partner with you in this endeavor. BPS develops and delivers technical training seminars, provides design/specification reviews at all stages of projects and offers a wide array of onsite training, inspections, and diagnostic field testing services. Our experience with high performance home building is based upon years of technical and practical experience. BPS has worked with many developers, builders, programs and municipalities in Colorado and throughout the United States. We have extensive experience with many green and high performance building programs such as Built Green®Colorado, Energy Star, LEED for Homes and Environments for Living®. BPS is prepared to dedicate two people to participate in your training sessions. 

We are committed to helping communities and builders alike strategically set attainable, manageable goals and surpass them in the construction and completion of every project.

BPS offers several training packages as detailed on the following page.  Should you not see one that fits your needs, let us know and we can tailor a program just for you. We believe that training is most effective when classroom discussion is combined with field work. This is why our primary EnergyStar training agenda (detailed below) is split into two distinct components.  Should a house within a reasonable distance not be available, we can conduct all training in the classroom.

Primary Energy Star One Day Training Package

Day One, Part 1 

Present 4 hour basic, building science based, ENERGY STAR classroom training. This training will cover the requirements of ENERGY STAR, giving participants an understanding of the technical requirements of the program.

• Building Science- understanding energy flows, heat, air and moisture
• Insulation systems- understanding insulation types and systems, RESNET inspection requirements and ENERGY STAR requirements for building inspections
• Compliance with the ENERGY STAR Thermal By-pass checklist
• Mechanical systems and load calculations requirements
• Lighting and appliance recommendations and requirements
• Ventilation systems recommendations for all projects

Day One, Part 2

• Conduct a pre-drywall rough stage mechanical, insulation and thermal by-pass inspection
• Perform a multipoint, diagnostic blower door test on final stage home
• Conduct a duct leakage to exterior test on final stage home
• Review rating documentation and certification paperwork required for all homes
• Review other diagnostic tools and testing procedures
• Builder question and answer wrap-up
